Data Engineer (medior)
As a data engineer within Mérieux NutriSciences | Blonk you will help translate domain specific models and data from various sources into environmental data products (such as our flagship database Agri-footprint). You will work on tooling used to generate environmental footprint data for food and agricultural products.
We work in multidisciplinary teams which focus on specific aspects of our ecosystem. You’ll become part of the Phoenix team, focusing on the development of tooling that drive a central data generation process. In this we are responsible for the whole process; from conceptualization and design up to working apps in production that meet our quality standards.
The Phoenix team currently consists of 2 content specialists and 2 software engineers. We share a passion for the products we work on and strive to improve them with each iteration, automating as much as possible.
*Currently, we are based in Gouda, but our office is moving to Rotterdam in a few months.
Today is Thursday, one of our two office-days in the week. You arrive at the office and catch up with colleagues during a coffee. At 9.45 the team's daily stand-up starts. You mention yesterday's schema design session where a new more formalized metadata schema was drafted. Today, you use it as input for the next issue which you just picked up from the backlog, a proof-of-concept implementation of the schema into one of our ETL models. For this you shortly pair up with a developer from the team to discuss implementation details. At midday we’ll have lunch together. Some of your colleagues will ask you to join for a post-lunch walk. In the afternoon you’ll continue with the proof-of-concept implementation, which you deploy by pushing the work to GitLab, where it’s picked up by a ci/cd pipeline which deploys it to the cloud. Together with a few interested colleagues you try out the PoC. It works! Great news for tomorrow’s daily stand-up.
